Would I recommend this book:  This is a must read of 2015!  It’s been a long time since I read a book that was a unquestionable 5 stars for me.  This book was it though.  Great storyline, great characters and I didn’t even mind there wasn’t a lot of sex in the book.  I was captivated from beginning to end.

Would I recommend this author:  YES, Debra does a fantastic job with her debut novel.  I can’t wait to see what she brings us next.

Title: By My Side
Author: Theresa Troutman
“Maybe it’s not what you’re running from, but what you’re running toward.”
Alicia travels to an exotic land, with hopes to reinvent herself. She moves to Auckland, New Zealand, to heal and escape her unhappy past in America.
Hunter works in a bar to distract himself from the memory of a tragic past. Playing in a local band and resorting to one night stands are his only means for an escape from his reality.
Brought together by circumstance, an unexpected romance blossoms between these two tortured souls.
Can being by each other’s side bring them the happiness they are desperate to discover? Or will being together break their fragile trust and lead to more heartache?

Let me start with my disappointment, I read the blurb and expected maybe a little darker story, or hoped for a darker story may be the correct thing to say.  Instead I was pleasantly surprised by that storyline.  It was not has “dark” as I imagined but it was great all the same.  Alicia whole world changes and she moves from America to New Zealand where she meets Hunter.  Hunter is Yummy, Alicia is sweet.  Their friends are the kind of friends we all want to have in our corner.  The romance is quick and easy but not without some internal conflict that are easily handled.  The author does an excellent job of giving us a sweet, second chance at love story for the characters.

This book will make for an excellent read as your finish up these last week of summer.  I encourage you to one click your copy today.

Never Series by CM Stunich ~a Review

11667285_640823896053655_8183123392704138070_nNever Series

CM Stunich

CM Stunich is a sadist and I’m her pain whore….. Reading the Never series has been a roller coaster ride of happy, sad, and PAIN…Pain because this woman loves cliffhangers.    I reviewed the first book in the series here.

This review will take you through my thoughts on books 2-5

Finding Never

Never and Ty are on a bus to confront Never’s past.  We meet Never’s sisters, mother and her first love Noah.  Yep now I’m in love with the whole family.  Each of her sisters has their own demons from their past…Mom is a bitch, Noah is sweet, Ty is hot dark and sweet…Never is a bitch you love.  Her sister well you can’t help but like them all Beth then stand in mom, Jade an angry young woman, the little ones are just cute as buttons.

Keeping Never

Never and Ty get more time in this story.  Never has a secret, Ty gets a call from a lawyer telling him his mom is dying.  They travel to New York and we finally get Ty’s background story.  Why he is who he is. Never and Ty battle yet another demon from the past as Ty deals with his past.  Even having some nasty characters from his past reenter their lives.

Never Can Tell

Never and Ty are living in New York a small family trying to make it while cleaning out the mess of a house Ty’s mom left them.  Time comes and they travel back to Never’s family home.  It’s a permanent move for them.  I’m super happy to see them back with the Regali sisters.  All is well in my dark and twisty world of Ty and Never.

Can I just say I’m not sure who I love more Never or Ty…

Ty is hot, he has the whole bad boy, tattoo thing going, throw in his dark and twisty past and he is like a girl wet dream…

Never is got the whole dark and twisty past, temper, badassness thing going on…makes a girl want to be her.

 Never Let Go

This book is more about Zella and Noah.  Can I just say sweet Noah is growing on me in each book of the series?  However he never belonged with Never.  Never and Ty are the only two who make sense for each other.  But I digress.  Zella is home for Christmas break but she has had some nasty shit happen at school and hides it from her family.  Noah and Zella have one little misunderstanding after another.  Then Never and Ty have a little drama…and BAM the book is over….YES CM you are a  sadist!!!!  And I LOVE IT!!!!  Can’t wait for more.

It’s really hard to write a review and not give away all the things I want to say because truth is you need to read the books for yourself.  You won’t be disappointed.  Only thing I’m really happy about is finding this series “late” in the game… …the cliffhangers leave you wanting more…  and yes I’m patiently awaiting the release of book 6 as I type this….tick tock tick tock!!!!!

Buy this series….It  is worth the $$$, it’s worth the waiting of the next book….

Rip Current~by Jill Sanders a Review

Title: Rip Current
Series: Grayton Series #3
Author: Jill Sanders
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: July 14, 2015
Cole is used to fame and has had his fill of women who fall at his feet, but the one woman he desires the most shows nothing but disdain for him and his reckless ways.
Wendy can’t stand Cole, at least in her head. Her body and heart, on the other hand, desire him beyond anything else.

Her breath hitched when she played those words over in her mind. Dating. Was she really thinking about getting into a relationship with Cole Grayton?

She glanced at him again as he leaned closer to her, and his arm tightened around her shoulders. “What?” He leaned closer.

“Hmm?” She turned her eyes back to the screen as he chuckled.

“You keep stealing glances.” His finger went under her chin as he turned her head towards his. “What are you thinking about? Because obviously you’re not really into this show.” He nodded towards the television.

She sighed and glanced at his lips and decided she didn’t want to make up her mind about Cole just yet. Not until she’d had some fun. Who could blame her? It had been months since she’d had any fun. “You did mention something about making out like teenagers.”

3 half star

Wendy is a bartender, Cole is a surfer/model.   Wendy works for Cole’s sister and instantly is attracted to him but stays away from him for personal reasons.  Time moves along in the story Cole is home from his jet setting and he has decided he is going after what he wants Wendy….Wendy while attracted to him, continues to fight him.  Cole’s personality is one that I like instantly.  I love how he is outwardly famous and put together but on the inside he has insecurities just like any other person.  Wendy while not unlikeable is not relatable to me.  It’s fun to watch these two come to terms with their demons and how their romance builds.  It’s a well written book, great steam, great characters, etc.

I struggled with understanding Wendy’s fears when it came to Cole’s risk taking.  I felt that I didn’t truly understand Wendy’s issue with what Cole did.  I was left scratching my head a couple of times as the conflict unfolded. I would have liked to really understood her fear of risk taking making me sympathize with her more versus being left questioning why she felt that way.

Despite my confusion with Wendy’s motivation, overall I found this to be a cute story, very likeable characters, and look forward to the next book in the series.

“It’s just that I really want stability in my life.”

“I know,” he said again and took her hand in his. “But sometimes what you want and what you need are two different things.”

She couldn’t stop the burst of laughter from slipping out of her lips. “What makes you believe that?” She stopped in front of her door, her keys in her hands.

He smiled and leaned against her front railing. “Invite me in and I’ll tell you.”

She chuckled. “That’s probably the worst idea I’ve heard yet.”

His smile grew. “Won’t know until you give it a try.”

Tasting Never by CM Stunich a Review

I was in a reading funk for almost a year….for someone who loves to read its a terrible place to be.  I saw the post for a possible group read of the series and I was like “hmmm why not?  I haven’t read this series and it looks good”

I bought the books…

My thoughts after reading Book 1…

Tasting Never

CM Stunich

Never and Ty simply are the most dark and twisted couple I have ever encountered in a book.  I’m not sure what’s more scary…their personal stories or the fact I relate so well.  Two people who use sex to get through the pain in life.  It’s a method of distraction and coping.

As the story develops we see more and more of each of their internal demons which only makes me love each character more.  How can two broken people be so lovable?  They just are!

“If you live your whole life in the darkness, than you don’t have any trouble recognizing the light”

This line sums the book up to me.  The book is full of the darkness that is Never and Ty yet as they begin to bond, a light begins to shine around them.  It’s fuzzy at first but by the end it’s peeking through the darkness like a little beam of sunshine.

“Guys like this, like Ty, they’re just built to explode, to rain their burning past down on you and melt your soul”

Ty does this so well not only for Never but me as a reader.  I’m drawn to him like a moth to a flame.  He’s the kind of guy I want to be with.  Okay maybe in a way I already have a man like Ty, my Hulk had a lot of darkness in him for that matter so did I until we got together 20 years ago.  That  is why I like Never and Ty so much while our stories are different, I understand the darkness.  I understand seeing the light for the first time.

This is a must read.  I’m off to Book 2….

UnAcceptable by Kristen Hope Mazzola ~ Book Review by Mari

It’s finally my time.
Time to escape from my mother, her crazy antics and questionable morals. I’m getting the heck out of Dodge, leaving the trailer park, to make something of myself. Everything was fine until I walked into The Unacceptables’ bar and met Abel Hellock. With his gorgeous muscles, tattoos, motorcycle and perfect smile, my knees quaked. My life was about to be sucked back into the seedy underbelly I fought so desperately to climb out of.
Everything was fine until I met my step-brother for the first time.
**18+ for sexual situations, language, and adult themes**
This was a fast paced, easy read.  Perfect mix of steam and story.  I found the story grabbing from the first moment. I didn’t put my kindle down for almost two hours..and only then because my phone kept ringing.  I love Biker MC books and this one had just enough to get my heart pumping.  The chemistry between the couple is believable.  This makes for a great read when you need a quick pick me up.
The only negative drawback to this story was it being advertised as a stepbrother romance.  It seems as if the stepbrother storyline was more of an after thought then a central part of the plot.

Hot Houston Nights~Book Review

Title: Hot Houston Nights: Grant & Pippah
Series: Grant & Pippah Vol 2
Author: S.N. Garza
Genre: Erotic Romance Serial
Release Date: June 16, 2015
**For readers 18+ due to sexual content, and language.**
Pippah has always been nothing more than a side issue for her parents. So when she was diagnosed with breast cancer at twenty-one, she didn’t tell them. She didn’t need to be rejected, again. Even a one night stand with a man who woke up her soul and brought her to life again.
Grant hadn’t expected to see his mystery girl ever again. Until he realized ‘the brat’ he was supposed to babysit was none other than the woman who rocked his entire world off it’s axes.
Their need for each other only grows and the desire to find out what love really means rises to the fore.
But Pippah has secrets. What Grant discovers will bring him to his knees.
He was here. I almost wouldn’t believe it if his lips weren’t on mine. His tongue licking and tangling with my own. He smelled of dust and wood. Maybe it was his cologne but it was intoxicating. My arms found their way around his neck and he bent down, lifting me with ease.

“Lord, Red. I needed you. Fucking months and I missed you like I’ve never missed a woman before.”

Then his lips captured mine once more before trailing kisses down my jawline and up to my ear.

“Please tell me you’re real.”

“Yes. I’m real.”

He thought of me just as much as I thought about him. That comforted me to know that I wasn’t the only one.

The last three months had been hectic to say the least. Nicole just wouldn’t calm down. It was like she was spiraling. I knew how that was but the difference was at least she had people, family that loved her.

Nicholas, even though he got aggravated with her sometimes, he still tried to make sure she was happy. Uncle Max was caring but not as attentive as Nicholas said he was before Aunt Charlene bounced.

I felt bad that I didn’t know what was happening to them, but I knew at the same time I was dealing with my own shit so my bubble was maxed out.

But as of right now, the only thing on my mind was this man and this kiss.

I was totally getting drunk from the way he sipped and licked at my lips like I was his own personal bottle of whiskey.

I must admit I’ve thought about him more times than I could count. Not even to count the times I’ve replayed that night in my head.

Finally, his lips backed away and I couldn’t help but say, “It was only supposed to be one night.”

“Yeah, well, I never thought you’d be the brat I was supposed to make sure stayed out of trouble.”

“I’m not—

“A brat? Yeah, I think you just might be one. Leaving like that without even telling me bye. Oh, and you’re a thief.”

Part 1

Meet Pippah poor little rich girl, and even though I use the clichéd description it not far from the truth.  Meet Grant poor little rich boy again not far from the truth. Pippah and Grant both have grown up in privileged families.  Sadly their parents neither notice nor care what they want. Pippah and Grant meet at a Masquerade ball and the magic is in the air as the two strangers have a once in a lifetime encounter.  The night ends and they go their own ways. They meet up again quite by accident and we are left wondering what happens next…

Part 2

Pippah and Grant reunite.  This time learning who each other really are. Love blooms.  Pippah finally has family and friends to connect with.  She is happy and free.  Then a secret from her past come back to haunt her.  One she has kept from Grant. And cue the end and we wait for part 3.  Now while I love the storyline.  It’s a little fast paced and I don’t like the short installments buts that’s a personal preference.  I will be happy to have the third installment and find out the rest of the story The author uses great descriptions throughout her story making you feel the story.  If you are in need a of a quick easy read this is the perfect book for you to pick up.
